Time Capsule Buried on Whitchurch Down by Tavistock Lions Club
Sunday 28 May 2000

Tavistock beat its bounds on the afternoon of Sunday 28 May 2000 - Rogation Sunday. A small group of citizens, including the Vicar of Tavistock, Rev Preb John Rawlings and the new Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Judith Williams, walked from the edge of Whitchurch Down ...

... to a new boundary stone, kindly donated by the Tavistock Lions Club.
The inscription reads:
TAVISTOCK TOWN BOUNDARY
T
AD 2000
W
THE LIONS CLUB OF TAVISTOCK

The "T" and "W" show the Tavistock and Whitchurch sides respectively of the boundary stone, which is placed by the roadside on the edge of Whitchurch Down.

A time capsule, containing artefacts representative of Tavistock in the year 2000, was buried by the Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Judith Williams and the President of the Tavistock Lions Club, Mr Steve Grummitt ...
... and the hole was filled in by other members of Tavistock Lions Club.
The party then departed ...

... to beat the rest of the bounds and finish with a barbecue at Woodtown.
